EXCEL CLUB

We are the change in the community

what is an excel club

An Excel Club is a junior division of the Exchange Club of Fontana, a local service organization made up of volunteers dedicated to serving the city of Fontana. Excel Clubs empower students to become leaders in service by identifying and addressing the needs of their community.

With guidance from a sponsoring Exchange Club member, students take charge—attending meetings, volunteering at Exchange Club events, and planning for their main campaign.

Excel Clubs meet once a month during lunch hours with an advisor. A second meeting each month is led by the student board of officers and does not require the presence of an Exchange Club advisor. Both meetings are used to discuss volunteer opportunities, plan events, and strengthen the club’s mission of service.

Child Abuse Prevention & Awareness

At the EXCEL Club, we believe every child deserves to feel safe, valued, and supported. Through education, service, and community partnerships, our members work to promote kindness, raise awareness, and bring comfort to children and families when they need it most.

Together, we’re creating a community where prevention begins with compassion and every act of service makes a difference.

“Anyone who does anything to help a child in his life is a hero to me.” — Fred Rogers

Teddy Bear Comfort Program

Sometimes, a simple teddy bear can provide comfort during one of the most difficult moments in a child’s life.

Throughout the year, EXCEL Club members raise funds to purchase new teddy bears that are donated to the Fontana Police Department, local fire stations, and Fontana Unified School District School Police. These teddy bears are given to children who have experienced abuse, neglect, trauma, or other crisis situations, offering a small source of comfort when they need it most.

This project reminds us that even the smallest acts of kindness can help a child feel safe, cared for, and not alone.

Pinwheels for Prevention Campaign

Every April, in recognition of Child Abuse Prevention Month, EXCEL Club members visit Fontana Unified elementary schools to share an important message:

Treat yourself and others with kindness.

Students participate in age-appropriate discussions about kindness, respect, inclusion, and speaking up when someone needs help. Together, they decorate pinwheels, each representing hope, healthy childhoods, and a community committed to protecting its children.

The colorful pinwheel displays serve as a reminder that every child deserves the opportunity to grow up in a safe, supportive, and nurturing environment.

Regular attendance is an important part of being an EXCEL Club member and demonstrates dedication, responsibility, and commitment to the club and your fellow members. Please review the attendance expectations and consequences:

  • 2 absences = Warning
  • 3 absences = Second Warning & Parent Notification
  • 5 absences = Removal from the Club

Parent / Guardian Involvement

We encourage all parents and guardians to join the EXCEL Club Booster Club! As a Booster Club member, you’ll stay informed about your student’s activities, including upcoming events, meeting dates, volunteer opportunities, and important announcements. It’s also a great way to get involved, support the club, and share in your student’s leadership journey. We love seeing parents participate alongside their students and highly encourage your involvement!

Transportation Responsibility

It is the responsibility of the student and their parent/guardian to arrange transportation to and from any Excel Club or Exchange Club events, whether held on or off school campus.

Being a part of the Excel Club provides students with more than just volunteer opportunities—it offers valuable experience with the City of Fontana.

  • Volunteer Hours: Students can earn community service hours to include on college, scholarship, or job applications.
  • Scholarship Opportunities: Active members of Excel Club become eligible to apply for a $1,000 scholarship offered by the Exchange Club of Fontana. This scholarship is awarded to FUSD, Options for Youth and Entrepreneur High School graduating seniors who demonstrate outstanding service, leadership, and commitment to their community.
  • Personal Growth: Members develop skills in communication, event planning, leadership, and organization—all while making a positive impact in their community.
  • City Volunteer: Most importantly, we teach students how to engage in their community and use the resources that are freely available through the City of Fontana.
